Arctic Thaw
Arctic Thaw
acrylic on canvas
W 72 in. L 84 in.

Climate change is heating up arctic ice at a rapid rate. Polar bears are at a high risk of extinction since they hunt for food through holes in the ice for their survival. Due to rapid melting sea ice polar bears and other arctic animals will soon starve from lack of food. This piece was created from a personal reaction to the devastating impact that global warming has on polar bears, arctic birds and mammals.

The black and white image at the bottom of the canvas depicts death as a frozen image of the polar bear head and arctic birds. The pink sky at the top of the canvas metaphorically brings hope and reaches out to the divine. This piece speaks of the cycle of life and death.
